Lara Dutta was born on March 16, 1978, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Wing Commander L. K. Dutta (retired), is Hindu Punjabi, while her mother, Jennifer Maureen Dutta (née Storey), has Anglo-Indian roots. Her cousin, Nitin Sawhney, is a renowned music composer and DJ.

In 1981, Dutta’s family moved to Bangalore, where she attended St. Francis Xavier Girls’ High School and the Frank Anthony Public School. She went on to study at the University of Mumbai, earning a degree in economics with a minor in communications. Dutta is fluent in English and Hindi and also speaks Punjabi and Kannada.

For this role, Mona Ghosh Shetty dubbed her voice to distinguish her character.

In 2004, Dutta appeared in a cameo role for the song “Aisa Jadoo” in “Khakee,” followed by “Bardaasht,” which did not perform well. Despite the challenges faced by films like “Aan: Men at Work,” “Insan,” “Elaan,” and “Jurm,” Dutta found box office success with “Masti.”

Dutta once revealed in an interview that she declined a role in “The Matrix” franchise due to her mother’s illness. From 2005 to 2010, she took on various projects, with notable successes including “Kaal” (2005), “No Entry” (2005), and “Dosti: Friends Forever” (2005). “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom” (2007) received mixed responses, but “Partner” (2007) was a blockbuster.

In 2008, Dutta lent her voice to the animated film “Jumbo” and made a special appearance in “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.” The following year, she appeared in “Billu Barber” and faced challenges with the underwater adventure film “Blue.” Despite this, she continued to work on films like “Do Knot Disturb” and the 2010 hit “Housefull.” she also starred in “Singh Is Bliing” (2015), “Fitoor” (2016), and “Azhar” (2016). She made her web series debut in 2020 with “Hundred,” which was well-received.
