Early Life

Shriya Saran Bhatnagar was born on September 11, 1982, in Haridwar, Northern India, to Pushpendra Saran Bhatnagar and Neeraja Saran Bhatnagar. Her father was employed at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, and her mother was a chemistry teacher at Delhi Public School in Haridwar and later in New Delhi.

Shriya grew up in the BHEL colony of Haridwar, where she attended schools where her mother was teaching. She has an elder brother, Abhiroop, who lives in Mumbai. Hindi is her native language. Shriya pursued higher education at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Shriya has a strong background in dance. She started learning Kathak and Rajasthani folk dance in her childhood under her mother’s instruction and later received formal Kathak training from Shovana Narayan. While in college, she was actively involved in dance teams and collaborated with her teacher to address social issues through their performances.

Shriya Saran Bhatnagar, born on September 11, 1982, in Haridwar, Northern India, began her career while studying in her second year at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi. Her entry into the entertainment industry came through a music video for Renoo Nathan’s “Thirakti Kyun Hawa,” thanks to a recommendation from her dance teacher. This opportunity led to her film debut in “Ishtam” as Neha, and she quickly followed up with several more films.

In 2002, Shriya gained prominence with the Telugu film “Santosham,” which won accolades for Best Feature Film. Her success continued with films like “Nuvve Nuvve.” She made her foray into Hindi cinema in 2003 with “Tujhe Meri Kasam” and entered Tamil cinema with “Enakku 20 Unakku 18.”

Between 2004 and 2007, Shriya experienced varying success. Her notable hit was “Sivaji: The Boss” in 2007, where she starred alongside Rajinikanth. She also made a return to Hindi cinema with “Awarapan” and appeared in “Azhagiya Tamil Magan.”

Shriya made her American cinema debut in 2008 with “The Other End of the Line,” receiving positive reviews. In 2010, she entered Malayalam cinema with “Pokkiri Raja” and returned to Telugu with “Don Seenu.” In 2011, she starred in “Rowthiram” and won the Best Actress Award at the International Tamil Film Awards. She also made a special appearance in the Tamil film “Rajapattai.”

Her career continued to flourish with diverse roles, including the Malayalam film “Casanovva” in 2012. She also appeared in the English film “Midnight’s Children.” Shriya’s subsequent work included notable projects like “Zila Ghaziabad” and “Pavitra” in 2013.

In 2014, she received acclaim for her role in the Telugu film “Manam” and continued to appear in films such as “Gopala Gopala” and “Drishyam.” Her work in the Telugu epic “Gautamiputra Satakarni” in 2016 was well-received.

Shriya’s special appearances in 2016 included the Telugu film “Oopiri” and its Tamil counterpart “Thozha.” In 2017, she portrayed Vashishtha Devi in “Gautamiputra Satakarni” and Selvi in “Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan,” with further special appearances in “Nakshathram” and “Paisa Vasool.”

In 2018, Shriya featured in “Gayatri” as Shaarada, the Hindi film “Phamous” as Lalli, and the Telugu film “Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu” as Neelima. In 2019, she made a special appearance in the Telugu film “NTR: Kathanayakudu.”

Continuing her streak of special appearances, Shriya was seen in the Hindi film “Sab Kushal Mangal” in 2020.
