Early Life
Dhawan, born on April 24, 1987, is the son of film director David Dhawan and Karuna Dhawan. Hailing from a Punjabi Hindu family, he has an elder brother named Rohit, who is a film director best known for “Desi Boyz,” and his uncle, Anil Dhawan, is an actor. Varun completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics. He then went on to earn a degree in business studies from Nottingham Trent University in the UK. Before starting his acting career, he gained experience by working as an assistant director to Karan Johar on the film “My Name Is Khan” (2010).
Career
Before stepping into acting, Varun Dhawan worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar on the film “My Name Is Khan” (2010), which featured Adarsh Gourav, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Pallavi Sharda, Zarina Wahab, Vinay Pathak, and Sumeet Raghavan. In 2012, he debuted in Johar’s teen film “Student of the Year,” alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. His success continued with romantic comedies like “Main Tera Hero” (2014) and “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” (2014), directed by Shashank Khaitan.
From 2015 to 2018, Dhawan delivered hits such as “Badlapur” (2015), “ABCD 2” (2015) with Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhu Deva, and others, and “Dilwale” (2015) with Shah Rukh Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Kajol. These performances earned him critical acclaim and several award nominations.
In 2018, he appeared in “October” and “Sui Dhaaga” with Anushka Sharma. In 2019, he showcased his versatility in “Kalank” with Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, and others, and in “Street Dancer 3D” with Prabhu Deva, Nora Fatehi, and more.
