Early Life
Yami Gautam was born in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, and raised in Chandigarh in a Hindu Brahmin family. Her father, Mukesh Gautam, is a renowned Punjabi film director and the VP of PTC Network, while her mother, Anjali Gautam, has always been a pillar of support. Yami has a younger sister, Surilie, who made her debut in the Punjabi film “Power Cut.”
Initially, Yami aspired to join the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and even pursued a degree in law honors. However, her passion for acting led her to Mumbai at the age of 20, where she began her journey in the entertainment industry. Although she left her full-time studies to focus on acting, she is currently completing her graduation part-time in Mumbai. Yami enjoys reading, interior decoration, and listening to music.
In her personal life, Yami was in a relationship with Pulkit Samrat from 2015 to 2018. She married Aditya Dhar on June 4, 2021, and is now known as Yami Gautam Dhar.
Career
Yami Gautam’s foray into the world of television began with shows like “Chand Ke Paar Chalo” and “Raajkumar Aaryyan.” She gained significant recognition for her role in “Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam” on Colors TV. Yami also participated in reality shows such as “Meethi Choori No 1” and “Kitchen Champion Season 1.”
Her film debut came in 2009 with the Kannada movie “Ullasa Utsaha,” but it was her Bollywood debut in 2012 with “Vicky Donor” that brought her widespread acclaim. The romantic comedy, directed by Shoojit Sircar and co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana, was a commercial success and earned Yami several awards.
Over the years, Yami has appeared in various notable films, including “Badlapur” (2015), “Kaabil” (2017), and “Batti Gul Meter Chalu” (2018). Her role in “Uri: The Surgical Strike” (2019) alongside Vicky Kaushal was highly praised and contributed to her rising fame. She continued to impress with performances in “Bala” (2019), “Ginny Weds Sunny” (2020), and “Bhoot Police” (2021).
In 2022, Yami starred in “A Thursday,” receiving critical acclaim for her performance. She followed this with roles in “Dasvi” and “Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga” (2023). Her portrayal of a lawyer in “OMG 2” (2023), a satire on sex education in India, earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
