Early Life

Archana Puran Singh was born on September 26, 1962, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Raised in a Punjabi family, she completed her early education in Dehradun. Archana displayed a strong interest in performing arts from a young age, actively participating in school plays and cultural events. Her family supported her passion for acting, recognizing her talent early on.

After finishing school, Archana moved to Delhi for higher studies. She enrolled at Lady Shri Ram College for Women, where she continued to pursue her love for acting. During her college years, she was involved in theater, gaining experience and honing her skills.

Career

Archana Puran Singh began her film career with the TV movie Abhishek in 1987, where she starred alongside Aditya Pancholi. That same year, she appeared in Jalwa with Naseeruddin Shah. She subsequently took on smaller roles in several notable films, including Agneepath (1990), Saudagar (1991), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Aashiq Awara (1993), and Raja Hindustani (1996). Archana also featured in item songs in films such as Baaz with Govinda and Judge Mujrim with Suniel Shetty.

Transitioning to supporting roles, Archana often found herself in comedies within the Hindi film industry. Some of her significant works include Love Story 2050, Mohabbatein, Krrish, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Masti, De Dana Dan, and Bol Bachchan.

Her television journey began as a host with shows like Wah, Kya Scene Hai and Uncensored on Zee TV in 1993. She later acted in popular TV shows such as Shrimaan Shrimati, Junoon, and Archana Talkies on Sony Entertainment Television. She was also part of the Zee Horror Show.

Beyond acting, Archana explored directing sitcoms like Jaane Bhi Do Paaro and Nehle Pe Dehla, and produced Samne Wali Khidki. In 2005, she participated in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 1 with her husband, Parmeet Sethi. The couple went on to host Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 1) in 2006.

Archana gained prominence as a judge on comedy shows, particularly Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus. In 2015, she portrayed Begum Paro in SAB TV’s The Great Indian Family Drama.

In 2019, Archana joined the judging panel of The Kapil Sharma Show. That same year, she played the role of Lakhan’s mother, Paramjeet, in the SAB TV serial My Name Ijj Lakhan, alongside her real-life husband, Parmeet Sethi.
